Sunday Weather Xtreme: Another Nice One!

| November 7, 2021 @ 6:59 am

Did you remember to fall back this morning? Daylight saving time ended at 2 a.m. this morning. So if you forgot to change your clocks, you may be an hour early right now. If you did remember, didn’t that extra hour of sleep feel good?

SATURDAY WAS A NICE DAY: Yesterday was a beautiful day across Alabama. Lots of blue skies, sunshine, and cool temperatures gave the day a crisp feel. High temperatures were in the upper 50s to middle 60s, some 3-8 degrees below normal for this time of year. Overnight lows were mostly in the 30s with a few readings near 40F in the I-85 Corridor. A widespread frost has occurred across much of North and Central Alabama this morning with frost advisories in effect. Hopefully, everyone has protected their sensitive plants.

MORNING LOWS: Included 29F up at Black Creek in Etowah County from Skywatcher Vic Bell. Rick Robbins had 31F in Morris with frost, as did Brent Wyatt in Morris. John Talbot had 32F in Hueytown. Matthew Yerby says there is frost on the pumpkin in Trussville with a reading of 34F. Bud Bean was luxuriating in the relative balminess of Northport where it was 39F.

TODAY WILL BE EVEN NICER: Expect more of the same today, with clear autumn skies and plenty of sunshine. Afternoon readings will be 3-5 degrees warmer than those of yesterday, making the day feel even a little nicer. Lows tonight will still be generally in the upper 30s.

JUST ABOUT PERFECT INTO MIDWEEK: It doesn’t get much better than the stretch of weather Alabama will enjoy from Monday through much of Thursday. More clear to partly cloudy skies with highs in the upper 60s to lower 70s. Lows will gradually warm through the 40s and into the lower 50s by Thursday morning.

INTO EACH WEEK A LITTLE RAIN MUST FALL: Which is a good thing. An approaching cold front will start to ramp up our rain chances by late Thursday into Thursday night. Rain and a few rumbles of thunder look likely Thursday night into early Friday morning, which gradually clearing skies later in the day. Highs on Friday will struggle to get back to 60F. No severe weather is expected.

WEEKEND OUTLOOK: Brace for some more chilly weather, especially for Saturday, when highs will struggle to get out of the 40s. Sunday highs will be in the middle 50s. Lows Sunday and Monday morning will approach freezing in spots.

MAJOR COASTAL STORM: The big coastal storm off the coast of Georgia and the Carolinas is producing gale and storm-force winds as well as serious coastal flooding all the way from Northeast Florida to the Chesapeake.

TROPICS: The Atlantic is quiet from a tropical standpoint. Wanda should become a post-tropical storm later today as it passes north of the Azores.

GULF COAST WEATHER: Rain is expected late in the week along the beautiful beaches of Alabama and Northwest Florida. But In the meantime, mild and mostly sunny conditions will prevail. Highs will be in the lower 70s. Lows will warm from the 40s in the 50s.

DANCING WITH THE STATS: Alamosa CO hit 68 degrees yesterday, setting a new record for the date.
