Chilly in the Northwestern Parts of Central Alabama to Mild in the Southeast at Midday

| November 13, 2021 @ 12:21 pm

REST OF TODAY: Skies continue to be cloud-free across Central Alabama as we have crossed over into the midday hour, but even the sun is not helping warm us up much as those 12 pm temperatures were in the mid-40s to the lower 60s across the area. Haleyville was sitting at 46 degrees as the cold spot, while it was a much more “balmy” 63 degrees down in Eufaula as the warm spot. Birmingham was only at 50 degrees. Don’t expect it to get much warmer as afternoon highs will only reach the lower 50s to the lower 60s across the area.

Temperatures will quickly start to retreat as we lose sunshine and we go through the evening hours. We can expect to see the 40s across the area around 6 pm, and down into the mid-30s to the lower 40s by 10 pm.

A FREEZE WARNING goes into effect tonight at 9 pm and is set to expire at 8 am Sunday morning due to overnight low temperatures dropping into the 29 to 32-degree range. Frost and freeze conditions will kill crops, other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing. Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold. To prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes they should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly. Those that have in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above-ground pipes to protect them from freezing.

Central Alabama counties in the warning: Autauga, Barbour, Bibb, Blount, Bullock, Calhoun, Chambers, Cherokee, Chilton, Clay, Cleburne, Coosa, Dallas, Elmore, Etowah, Fayette, Greene, Hale, Jefferson, Lamar, Lee, Lowndes, Macon, Marengo, Marion, Montgomery, Perry, Pickens, Pike, Randolph, Russell, Shelby, St. Clair, Sumter, Talladega, Tallapoosa, Tuscaloosa, Walker, Winston.

North Alabama counties in the warning: Colbert, Cullman, DeKalb, Franklin, Jackson, Lauderdale, Lawrence, Limestone, Madison, Marshall, Morgan.

SUNDAY’S WEATHER: After the very chilly start, your Sunday will be a bright, sunny, and warmer day across Central Alabama as highs will top out in the lower to mid-60s across the area. Some of those afternoon highs, especially in the northwestern parts of the area, will be around 10 degrees warmer than what will be seen today.
