Mid-morning in Alabama, Very Wet

Widespread rain continues at mid-morning over a large part of North and Central Alabama. Even down around Montgomery, some heavy showers were approaching that area.

But the heaviest rain of all was over Coosa, Tallapoosa, Chambers and Randolph Counties in East/Central Alabama extending eastward to the Atlanta metro area. Unfortunately, there is a Flash Flood Warning for a number of counties in and around Atlanta.

Back in Alabama a Flash Flood Warning continues for Etowah County in the NE part of the state until 11:15. The Flash Flood Watch continues for roughly the north half of the state until 4:00 this afternoon.

Off to the west, a large area of moderate to heavy rain covers about the north half of Mississippi, SE Arkansas and North Louisiana. All of that is moving toward the east, so the rain will get heavier again in the Birmingham area and other parts of Central Alabama later today.

A very unsettled week ahead, so stay tuned. This includes a threat of severe thunderstorms about Thursday. The time line on that is not certain yet.

At Birmingham Airport, an additional 2.53 inches of rain occurred since midnight bringing the October total to 4.89 inches and the year to 57.24 inches. That is an amazing surplus of 14.42 inches, which is close to a three-month extra supply!
