Parts of North Alabama Upgraded to a Winter Storm Warning; Winter Weather Advisory Issued for the Rest of North Alabama

NWS Huntsville has upgraded the Winter Storm Watch for DeKalb and Jackson counties to a Winter Storm Warning valid at 6 am Sunday through midnight Sunday night.

* WHAT…Heavy wet snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches, with locally higher amounts in the higher elevations. Winds gusting at 30 to 40 mph.

* WHERE…In Alabama, Jackson and DeKalb counties. In Tennessee, Moore, Lincoln and Franklin counties.

* WHEN…From 6 AM Sunday to midnight CST Sunday night.

* IMPACTS…Travel could be very difficult.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS…The combination of heavy wet snow and gusty winds may lead to tree branches and weakened trees being knocked down.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in our vehicle in case of an emergency.


NWS Huntsville has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Colbert, Cullman, Franklin, Lauderdale, Lawrence, Limestone, Madison, Marshall, and Morgan counties in North Alabama valid from 6 am Sunday morning to midnight Sunday night.

* WHAT…Wet snow expected. Total snow accumulations of an inch or less, however locally higher amounts near two inches are possible in the higher elevations.

* WHERE…Lauderdale, Colbert, Franklin, Lawrence, Limestone, Madison, Morgan, Marshall and Cullman counties.

* WHEN…From 6 AM Sunday to midnight CST Sunday night.

* IMPACTS…Plan on slippery road conditions.
