An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player below. You can subscribe to the Weather Xtreme video on iTunes by clicking here.

ONE MORE NICE DAY: With a good supply of sunshine today we expect a high in the mid 70s after a cool start this morning. For those of you keeping records, this the 5th consecutive day with no measurable rain for most Alabama communities. It has been a wonderful chance to dry out.

RAIN RETURNS TOMORROW NIGHT: Watch the Weather Xtreme video and you can see the players on the field all ready for a pretty decent rain event before the week is over. A digging upper trough over the Southwest U.S., and Tropical Storm Rick approaching the Mexican Pacific coast; that moisture is poised to move up through Mexico and Texas, becoming entrained in the developing storm system.

Clouds will increase tomorrow, but the daytime hours will be dry with a high in the 70s. Rain will overspread Alabama tomorrow night from west to east. For high school football games; we figure there is a good chance of rain for the games across the western third of the state, but the rain should come in after the games are over from Birmingham on east.

Periods of rain and thunderstorms are likely late tomorrow night through Friday and Friday night. We are still projecting rain amounts of 1 to 2 inches with the tropical connection. Some thunder and lightning is likely, but for now the risk of organized severe weather looks low due to limited instability values.

THE WEEKEND: The GFS is trending a little weaker with the upper trough Saturday… no doubt we will begin the day with clouds, but there is some hope of clearing Saturday afternoon. If the clouds hang tough all day, we won’t get out of the 50s, but if the sun can peek through we might see low 60s. Sunday looks like a sunny day with a high in the low 70s.

NEXT WEEK: A challenging forecast… an upper trough passes through Monday, and we will probably need to mention at least a chance of scattered showers, but the air will be very dry and a major rain event is not likely. Then, Tuesday looks dry, but moisture begins to return Wednesday when a shower will be possible. The best chance of rain during the week will come on Thursday, with showers and storms ahead of a strong cold front. Watch the Weather Xtreme video and you can see the 00Z GFS is showing very cold air moving in here Friday of next week, but that is out there in voodoo land. The model suggests a cool and dry Halloween weekend.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. You can even listen here on the blog; look for the player on the top left.

STORM ALERT XTREME: Want to be trained as a storm spotter? Want to join the ABC 33/40 Skywatcher team? Our annual training event, Storm Alert Xtreme, is coming up on Saturday November 14 at the BJCC during the annual Birmingham International Auto Show. You will be trained by the best SKYWARN trainer in the nation, our own Brian Peters (he has trained over 6,000 Alabama storm spotters over the years). We encourage all of our Skywatchers to attend this every year; you simply cannot get enough training. We will begin at 9:30, and be out by 3:30. And, everyone that attends Storm Alert Xtreme gets free admission to the Alabama International Auto Show. There is no admission charge, and no need to register. Just show up, but get there early for a good seat. We had a packed house last year.

This morning I will be down in Tuscaloosa for a weather program at Skyland Elementary School… look for the next Weather Xtreme video here by 3:30. Enjoy the day!
