Mostly Cloudy & Cool Across the Area at Midday

| March 9, 2022 @ 12:53 pm

THE MIDDAY CHECK-UP: Other than a few leftover sprinkles over the extreme southeastern parts of Central Alabama, the radar is free from any rain over the rest of North/Central Alabama as we approach the 1 pm hour. Most locations were seeing mostly cloudy skies at this point, but a few places have some sunshine breaking through those clouds at times. Temperatures as of the midday roundup were in the upper 40s to the upper 50s across the area. Eufaula was the warm spot at 59º. Bessemer was the cool spot at 47º. Birmingham was sitting at 49º.

REST OF YOUR WEDNESDAY: Much of the area will stay dry throughout the remainder of the afternoon and into the evening hours, except for some stray showers over the extreme southeastern parts. However, showers and a few thunderstorms will start to invade the southern half of the area during the late-night and overnight hours, with the higher rain chances the farther south you go. Today’s highs will top out in the lower 50s to the mid 60s, while overnight lows will be in the upper 30s to the lower 50s.

HOW ABOUT THURSDAY’S WEATHER?: The good news is that the rain activity over the southern half of the area will be pushing out during the morning and clouds will be decreasing area wide throughout the rest of the daylight hours on Thursday. It will be much warmer as well, with afternoon highs reaching the mid to upper 60s.

EARLY MORNING TORNADO: Earlier this morning, a tornado touched down near the town of Clayton and damage has been rated as an EF-1 on the Enhanced Fujita Scale. There were multiple trees downed along with some minor structural damage and a pickup truck was rolled on its side. The good news is that there have been no reported injuries. The survey is ongoing and NWS Birmingham will release the official report after the survey has been completed.
