| June 11, 2022 @ 1:46 pm

THIS WEEKEND: With partly to mostly sunny skies across the area, temperatures have made it up into the upper 70s to the upper 80s as of the 1 pm hour. Demopolis was the cool spot at 78º. Eufaula was the warm spot at 88º. Birmingham was sitting at 85º. Afternoon highs will make it up into the upper 80s to the lower 90s, with a small chance of isolated to scattered showers for locations mainly south of a line from Demopolis to Clanton to Roanoke. Tonight will be dry for everyone after sunset, with partly cloudy skies and lows in the upper 60s to the lower 70s.

Ridging takes a hold of our pattern on Sunday that will allow for heat levels to start to rise. With higher dewpoints, some locations may approach heat advisory criteria as heat index values approach 105º. Isolated afternoon showers and storms will be few and far between. Highs in the lower to mid 90s.

THE TROPICS: All is quiet across the Gulf of Mexico, the Caribbean Sea, and the tropical Atlantic Ocean, and no new tropical cyclones are expected to develop over the next five days.

ON THIS DAY IN WEATHER HISTORY — 1989: Thunderstorms produced severe weather in the south central and southeastern U.S. during the day and night. Thunderstorms spawned eleven tornadoes, including one which tore the roof off a restaurant at Bee Branch, AR, injuring six persons. The tornado tossed one car into the restaurant, and another car over it.
