An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player below. You can subscribe to the Weather Xtreme video on iTunes by clicking here.

PLEASANT DAYS, CHILLY NIGHTS: Look for a bright sunny day today across Alabama with a high in the low to mid 60s. The weather will stay dry through the weekend with a warming trend; the high tomorrow will be close to 70, followed by mid 70s over the weekend. Morning lows will remain generally in the 40s.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: Perfect weather for high school playoff games tomorrow night; a clear sky with temperatures around 60 at kickoff, dropping through the 50s during the games, perhaps reaching the upper 40s by the 4th quarter in some stadiums. Alabama is on the road Saturday night; they play the Mississippi State Bulldogs at 6:00; the sky will be clear with a kickoff temperature around 68 degrees, falling into the upper 50s by the final whistle. Auburn plays at Georgia Saturday evening in Athens (6:00 p.m. kickoff); the sky will be clear with 65 degrees at kickoff, and low to mid 50s by the fourth quarter. UAB is also on the road; they play at Memphis (12:00 noon kickoff)… no weather problems there with a sunny sky and 68 degrees at kickoff, rising into the low to mid 70s during the game.

NEXT WEEK: Model madness is creeping in. The 06Z GFS now keeps all of the rain west of Alabama through Tuesday, leaving us dry and mild early in the week. A weakening system then brings the chance of a few showers Wednesday. If the 12Z GFS looks like this, needless to say we will need to revise our forecast a bit. One way or another it looks more and more like any rain next week won’t be especially heavy.

LONG RANGE: The idea of a long wave upper trough is still on the table later this month, with a flood of very cold air moving down into the continental U.S. in the November 23-25 time frame. The 06Z GFS shows a very interesting look for Alabama around November 27, but this is all voodoo as you know. Watch the Weather Xtreme video for details.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. You can even listen here on the blog; look for the player on the top left.

STORM ALERT XTREME THIS SATURDAY: Want to be trained as a storm spotter? Want to join the ABC 33/40 Skywatcher team? Our annual training event, Storm Alert Xtreme, is coming up on Saturday November 14 at the BJCC during the annual Birmingham International Auto Show. You will be trained by the best SKYWARN trainer in the nation, our own Brian Peters (he has trained over 6,000 Alabama storm spotters over the years). We encourage all of our Skywatchers to attend this every year; you simply cannot get enough training. We will begin at 9:30, and be out by 3:30. And, everyone that attends Storm Alert Xtreme gets free admission to the Alabama International Auto Show. There is no admission charge, and no need to register. Just show up, but get there early for a good seat. We had a packed house last year.

I will run down to Tuscaloosa this morning to speak to the residents at Regency Retirement Village… then on to the National Weather Service office in Birmingham for a National Weather Association local chapter meeting. Look for the next Weather Xtreme video here by 3:30 this afternoon. Enjoy the day!
