COOL DAYS: Yep, those 70s are long gone for now. Birmingham is only at 48 degrees at 2:00 this afternoon, well below forecast highs. Where the sun has popped out, temperatures are in the 50s. But, the dry slot is fairly narrow, and more clouds will likely rotate back into North Alabama tonight, coming around the deep upper low over Southeast Missouri.

Dry and cool weather is the story tomorrow and Thursday; we will lower the forecast high tomorrow to the upper 50s with a mix of sun and clouds. Thursday should be sunny with a high in the low to mid 60s.

FRIDAY AND THE WEEKEND: Global models continue to trend southward with the Gulf of Mexico storm. A surface low will form in the western Gulf Friday, and a significant rain event is likely for the Gulf Coast Friday night into Saturday. The GFS continues to suggest the most significant rain will be over the southern quarter of the state, with only light amounts for Central Alabama. Areas north of I-20 will most likely miss the rain completely. Then, on Sunday, the low will move northeast, away from Alabama, and the sky should become partly sunny during the day with a high around 60 degrees.

This setup in January often produces snow over Alabama if sufficient cold air is in place. But, this is not January, this is November, so it will be all rain, of course.

THANKSGIVING WEEK: Watch the Weather Xtreme video for a day by day breakdown of the week. Still looks like a round of showers and storms on Tuesday, with sharply colder air invading the state by Thanksgiving and Black Friday as a deep upper trough forms over the eastern third of the nation. The 12Z GFS hints at some risk of light rain on Thanksgiving day with a Polar front coming through, but that could change again since this is still out in voodoo land.
