The Just-After-Midday Check on Our Weather Situation

| November 26, 2022 @ 1:34 pm

For now, we continue to see light rain falling over several locations on the western side of Central Alabama with a few echoes encroaching in on the eastern half. We also have light showers falling over a good portion of the North Alabama counties.

The latest HRRR run (above image valid at 4 pm) continues to show that the main bulk of the rain will be moving into the western parts of the area, while a few light spotty showers will be possible over portions of the rest of the area. However, just one hour later on the run shows showers invading the Tuscaloosa area, especially over Bryant-Denny Stadium. Winds will be increasing as well, and that may affect some of the aspects of the game, especially on kicking.

The SPC continues to have the southern portions of the area and down into South Alabama in a Marginal Risk for severe storms, while the extreme southwestern parts of South Alabama, which includes the Alabama Gulf Coast, in a Slight Risk. We are still looking at the main threat coming from gusty winds, but a brief spin-up tornado or two cannot be ruled out. For Central Alabama, timing continues to be from 6 pm until 2 am for locations along and south of a line from Sweet Water (Marengo Co.) to Prattville (Autauga Co.) to Auburn (Lee Co.) to Fort Mitchell (Russell Co.).

Don’t forget… all counties in North (Colbert, Cullman, DeKalb, Franklin, Jackson, Lauderdale, Lawrence, Limestone, Madison, Marshall, Morgan) and Central Alabama (Autauga, Barbour, Bibb, Blount, Bullock, Calhoun, Chambers, Cherokee, Chilton, Clay, Cleburne, Coosa, Dallas, Elmore, Etowah, Fayette, Greene, Hale, Jefferson, Lamar, Lee, Lowndes, Macon, Marengo, Marion, Montgomery, Perry, Pickens, Pike, Randolph, Russell, Shelby, St. Clair, Sumter, Talladega, Tallapoosa, Tuscaloosa, Walker, Winston) will have a WIND ADVISORY go into effect at 6 pm tonight and is set to expire at 6 am Sunday.
