CONFIRMED Tornado Warning for Greene and Sumter Counties Until 10 am

This storm will impact I-59 near AL-14 Eutaw Exit 40. Please get off the interstate at exit 45 if southbound and exit 32 if Northbound. The Sumter County Welcome Center Exit 38 is a little close for comfort.

The NWS BMX has upgraded the TOR for Greene and Sumter to confirmed based on a debris signature on the radar.

Strong rotation is show just south of Gainesville. It will pass near or north of Boligee.

Dangerous storm with pronounced rotation approaching Sumter County. Will be near Emelle and Gainesville shortly. Be in safe shelter now.

The National Weather Service in Birmingham has issued a

* Tornado Warning for…
Central Greene County in west central Alabama…
Northwestern Sumter County in west central Alabama…

* Until 1000 AM CST.

* At 858 AM CST, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado
was located near Blackwater, or 10 miles northwest of Meridian
Station, moving east at 55 mph.

HAZARD…Tornado.

SOURCE…Radar indicated rotation.

IMPACT…Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without
shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed.
Damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles will occur. Tree
damage is likely.

* Locations impacted include…
Eutaw, Boligee, Union, Gainesville, Epes, Emelle, New West Greene,
Allison, Walden Quarters, West Greene, Knoxville, Geiger, New Mount
Hebron, Sumterville, Eutaw Municipal Airport, Clinton, Five Points
Intersection and I 20 Rest Area Near Eutaw.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

TAKE COVER NOW! Move to a basement or an interior room on the lowest
floor of a sturdy building. Avoid windows. If you are outdoors, in a
mobile home, or in a vehicle, move to the closest substantial shelter
and protect yourself from flying debris.
