Midday Nowcast: Clearing Sky

| January 19, 2023 @ 10:00 am

The rain has mostly exited the state and we are seeing a clearing sky as drier air flows into the state this afternoon. Most locations are in the mid and upper 60s. Tonight temperatures will fall into the mid and upper 30s.

USA BRIEF: Heavy snow from a winter storm will stretch from the Upper Midwest to the Great Lakes and Northeast. A wintry mix will impact areas from the Great Lakes to the Northeast. Severe storms may develop in the Ohio Valley. A storm in the Southwest will bring lower elevation showers and heavy mountain snow, including in California mountains where additional snow will add to an enormous snowpack.

COOL FRIDAY: After the chilly start to the day, tomorrow will be mostly sunny and cooler; expect highs in the 50s over North Alabama, with 60s to the south.

WET WEEKEND: Clouds and rain begin to spread northward from the Gulf as a feature tracks along the Gulf Coast. Saturday afternoon, night, and Sunday will be rather wet with periods of rain. Some thunder is possible, but there is no risk of severe storms as the air will be rather stable with temperatures mainly in the 50s. Expect rainfall totals around one inch.

NEXT WEEK: After a mostly sunny day Monday, another weather disturbance will bring rain back into the state Tuesday. At this point we are not expecting any severe weather threat as there will be very little surface based instability. The rest of the week looks cool and dry with highs mostly in the 50s and lows in the 30s.
