A Late Night Update — Severe Storms Remain Possible

| June 18, 2023 @ 11:30 pm

So far tonight, the storms that have moved in have somewhat behaved, even though we had two warnings issued when the first storms moved in. For now, while the storms approaching I-65 are strong at the moment, there are no severe storms in the area. However, we still have the threat of damaging winds, large hail, and a tornado or two.

We have an Enhanced Risk up for the extreme west and southwestern parts of the area tonight, with much of the rest of North and Central Alabama under a Slight Risk. Instability remains lover over the area, while plenty of instability remains over Mississippi. However, as we get deeper into the overnight hours, instability will stay around the same or weaken a little, until a big increase starts to occur when the sun comes up. The good news is that much of the activity will have pushed over into Georgia as we reach the rush hour in the morning.

What we’ll mainly have to watch for is storms moving into the area from Mississippi, especially if they are able to hang on to most of their strength as they move into less unstable air.

Be sure to have a way to receive warnings just in case warnings are issued.
