Population Information

It is not exactly weather related, but our population is important to meteorologists since weather can have a significant impact on people.

The US Census Bureau has projected that the US population will reach 308,400,408 on Jan. 1, 2010. That’s a bunch of folks!

Like weather forecasts, if the projection is accurate, the population figure would represent an increase of 2,606,181, or about 0.9 percent, from New Year’s Day, 2009, according to Census officials.

Also included in the projections:

  • in January 2010, one U.S. birth is expected to occur every eight seconds while one death every will occur every 12 seconds.
  • net international migration is expected to add one person every 37 seconds to the U.S. population, resulting in an increase in the total U.S. population of one person every 14 seconds.
  • 2010 will see the collection of population data by the US Census Bureau.
