The 6 pm Weather Look
As we have hit the 6 pm hour on this 4th of July, we have plenty of scattered to numerous showers and storms across the area, especially over the southern parts of Central Alabama. All of this activity has stayed below severe limits for the entire afternoon, except for the one warned storm that affected portions of Pike and Barbour counties just before 2 pm.
However, we continue to have a Marginal Risk of severe storms through the rest of this evening as showers and storms continue to slowly move eastward across Mississippi into the area. Damaging winds and quarter size hail are the main threats.
The latest run of the HRRR continues to show that showers and storms will be possible during the evening, especially for the start of the big fireworks show on Red Mountain. Take your ponchos and umbrellas with you just in case, and if any lightning is occurring, go indoors or in a vehicle immediately.
