Severe Thunderstorm Watch for North Alabama

| July 18, 2023 @ 3:50 pm

A complex of storms dropping southeastward through Middle Tennessee will be turning its sights on Alabama’s Tennessee Valley in coming hours.

NWS Huntsville has issued the watch for Colbert, Cullman, DeKalb, Franklin, Jackson, Lauderdale, Lawrence, Limestone, Madison, Marshall, and Morgan.

The Central Alabama counties are Blount, Cherokee, Etowah, Marion, and Winston.

It goes until 10 p.m.

60-70 mph winds are possible with this system.

The system should hold together until evening. It is of course in an environment of high instability and low shear, but it should run out of steam about the time it gets to I-59 tonight.
