Severe T-Storm Watch Expires; Storms Continue to Move Southeastward

Coverage of storms have dwindled a little as we have gotten deeper into the evening. The Severe T-Storm Warning was just cancelled for portions of Chambers county as the storms have moved out of that warning location, but continues until 6:45 pm for southern portions of Chambers and Tallapoosa counties.

The Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been allowed to expire as the likelihood of storms becoming severe have become lower. I’m sure with the next update from the SPC, the severe risks will be adjusted lower as the storms have nearly moved out of the Marginal Risk zone. Once these storms push out of the area, the rest of the nighttime and into the pre-dawn hours will be dry.

The good news is that the coverage of scattered storms will be much less on Sunday; however, the bad news is that the heat will not be going anywhere. NWS Birmingham has extended the Excessive Heat Warning until 9 pm Sunday night for Autauga, Barbour, Bibb, Bullock, Chilton, Coosa, Dallas, Elmore, Fayette, Greene, Hale, Jefferson, Lamar, Lee, Lowndes, Macon, Marengo, Montgomery, Perry, Pickens, Pike, Russell, Shelby, Sumter, Tallapoosa, Tuscaloosa, and Walker counties in Central Alabama, and expands it to now include Blount, Clay, Marion, St. Clair, Talladega, and Winston counties.

The Heat Advisory has also been extended until 9 pm Sunday night for Calhoun, Chambers, Cherokee, Cleburne, Etowah, and Randolph counties in Central Alabama.

NWS Huntsville has issued an Excessive Heat Warning for Colbert, Cullman, Franklin, Lauderdale, Lawrence, Limestone, Madison, Marshall, and Morgan counties in North Alabama until 9 pm Sunday night. Heat index values will reach 105-113º.

A few more hours and we’ll be dry across the area after the storms move out. We’ll keep an eye on what is left just to make sure you are informed if a warning has been issued.
