A Quick Update on Hilary…and in the Middle of Everything, an Earthquake!

Hilary was downgraded to a depression on the 8 a.m. PDT advisory this morning and moved inland on the Baja Peninsula coastline at 11 a.m. PDT today.

It is now entering Southern California southeast of San Diego.

Top winds are 60 mph now.

Heavy rain has overspread much of Southern California and numerous flash flood warnings are in effect.

0.63″ so far at San Diego. 0.81″ at LAX. Palm Springs has picked up 1.62 inches just in the past six hours. A local emergency was just declared in Palm Springs. There has been at least 1 swift water rescue there.

There is a risk of tornadoes this evening over inland portions of Southern California. A tornado warning is in effect for Central San Diego County near Alpine right now.

Winds will be strong especially at higher altitudes. Reports this hour…

Earlier winds gusted to 78 mph near Campo at Hauser Mountain.

A magnitude 5.1 earthquake was reported near Ojai CA at 2:41pm PDT. There have been significant aftershocks.
