Mid-Afternoon Update — A few Light Showers Out There

While it is a cloudy and dreary day across Central Alabama during this afternoon, the shower activity has slackened up a bit from what was reported this morning as there are a few scattered showers along and north of the I-20 corridor, while the southern half of the area is dry. 1 pm temperatures were in the lower 50s to the mid 60s across the area, with Troy as the warm spot at 64º. The cool spots were Anniston and Auburn at 53º. Birmingham was at 55º. Afternoon highs are only expected to be about 2-3º warmer, but they will struggle to do that. Shower chances, while less than now, will continue through the evening and overnight hours, with the better chances occurring over the south and southeastern parts of the area. Lows in the upper 40s to the mid 50s.

Sunday will continue the streak of gloomy-looking weather as skies will be cloudy with showers possible through the morning. Rain chances will come to an end during the afternoon hours from west to east and everyone will be dry by the evening. Highs will only be slightly warmer, reaching the upper 50s to the upper 60s.

The Tropics: Southwestern Caribbean Sea — A broad area of low pressure is forecast to form in the southwestern Caribbean Sea around the middle of next week. Thereafter, environmental conditions appear conducive for gradual development of this system while it meanders in the Caribbean Sea into the following weekend.
