Alabama at Noon: Rain Advancing Eastward
Regional radars on this Saturday show a solid 75 mile wide band of light to moderate rain advancing eastward from across Mississippi and Louisiana at this hour.
The rain extends from near Fulton MS to west of Tupelo to I-20 between Jackson and Forest, to near McComb and then into Louisiana, all the day to the coast around Morgan City.
In southern Mississippi, some thunderstorms are developing around McComb. The thunderstorms are not expected to be strong over Louisiana, Mississippi or Alabama today or tonight. Most of the Florida Peninsula is in a Slight Risk outlook from the SPC through tonight for severe thunderstorms.
The rain will reach Northwest Alabama around 1 p.m., West Central Alabama before 2 p.m. and will be into Southwest Alabama before 3 p.m. The main line should reach Birmingham before 6 p.m., but it will be weakening as the energy in the Gulf becomes dominant and that low ramps up. Some additional showers will likely breakout ahead of the main line in the next few hours, but they will be light and not to widespread.
Temperatures are in the 50s except over West Central and Southwest Alabama where some 60s are present thanks to some warm air advection. Mpst folks will see upper 50s or lower 60s today.
The low over the Gulf will intensify and move across the Florida Peninsula tonight, when those severe storms are possible.
Additional showers will form across Alabama tonight and a couple of lines of showers could move across the area overnight. No strong or severe storms though.
The rain should be mostly moves out by mid-morning tomorrow. Highs will be in the middle and upper 50s.
Monday will begin a dry period. It will be cool all week, especially Tuesday, when highs won’t get out of the 40s for most. Look for a potential hard freeze, especially Tuesday morning. Lots of uncertainty in the weekend forecast. The recent run of the GFS is wetter for Saturday. Not good news for the Day of Bama Bowls. But other runs have kept us dry. Waiting on the morning run of the European now to hopefully give us more clarity.
