Alabama 811 | Know What's Below.

Late Afternoon Update

| January 30, 2010 @ 4:35 pm | 19 Replies

Temperatures have been falling steadily across Alabama this afternoon as air moves into the state coming over the snow and ice pack just to the north over Tennessee and Arkansas. Birmingham, Calera, and Tuscaloosa are reporting 33 degrees at 4:00, with a number of our Skywatchers in those areas now at or just below freezing.

And, as expected, snow flurries have been reported over a decent part of North Alabama. The flurries and drizzle will end during the next hour or two as dry air takes over. Sunshine returns tomorrow with a high in the mid to upper 40s as a warming trend begins after a cold morning.

As Dr. Tim points out below, temperatures are now below freezing from Birmingham north and west, meaning any left over moisture could turn into ice on bridges. Evaporation will take care of a pretty good bit of the water on the roads, but just be aware that ice spots are possible tonight on bridges, so let’s be careful out there….
