STORM ALERT 2010 COMES TO GADSDEN TONIGHT! Our annual severe weather tour across Alabama comes to the Gadsden Convention Hall tonight. You can meet the ABC 33/40 Weather team, see some amazing Alabama weather stories, learn how to keep your family safe this tornado season, and win some cool stuff. The show begins at 7:00; be sure and get there early to get a good seat. See the entire tour schedule here!

TODAY/TOMORROW: Clouds linger across Alabama this morning in the wake of some light rain last night. Many spots didn’t have enough rain to measure, and all of the rain is now well to the east. The sky should become partly sunny this afternoon with a high in the low to mid 50s. Tonight will be clear and cold with a light freeze likely by daybreak tomorrow, and we will enjoy a good supply of sunshine tomorrow with a high back in the mid 50s.

THURSDAY/FRIDAY: The ole El Nino enhanced southern branch of the jet stream will push yet another wet weather system into Alabama Thursday. Looks like rain will become widespread by Thursday afternoon, with a good soaking by Thursday night. Friday won’t exactly be a chamber of commerce day, with low clouds, some light rain or drizzle at times, and temperatures hovering around 50 degrees much of the day. Rainfall amounts of 1 inch are likely, with isolated amounts to 2 inches. I don’t think we have any serious flooding concerns, and no severe weather, ice, or snow issues this time.

OUR WEEKEND: Saturday will be colder with temps in the 40s all day, and it might be hard to get rid of the clouds based on the latest model runs. Even some hint at drizzle or flurries over the Tennessee Valley Saturday morning, but much of the state should be dry. Sunshine returns in full force Sunday with a high in the upper 40s.

NEXT WEEK: Another impulse comes by Monday and Monday night of next week with a chance of some light rain, or maybe even snow light snow over the northern third of the state, but for now that doesn’t look like a major event. Colder air floods Alabama and the Deep South by the middle of next week.

VOODOO LAND: See the Weather Xtreme video for details; it sure looks interesting at mid-month with a strongly negative AO, very active southern stream, and cold air riding down the northern branch. Makes you want to go hmmmmmm…..

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. You can even listen here on the blog; look for the player on the top left.
