STORM ALERT 2010 IS TONIGHT IN GADSDEN: Our annual severe weather tour across Alabama rolls along tonight in Gadsden at the Convention Hall. You can meet the ABC 33/40 Weather team, see some amazing Alabama weather stories, learn how to keep your family safe this tornado season, and win some cool stuff. The show begins at 7:00; be sure and get there early to get a good seat. See the entire tour schedule here! I will be doing the weather live at the site at 5:00 and 6:00.

TONIGHT/TOMORROW: The sky is clearing nicely, although clouds linger over East Alabama this afternoon. We will be clear statewide tonight, and most spots will be close to freezing at daybreak tomorrow. Then, tomorrow promises to be a bright, sunny day with a high in the mid 50s.

THURSDAY/FRIDAY: The weather turns wet as yet another storm rolls through in the southern branch of the jet stream. Rain should begin during the day Thursday, then becoming widespread Thursday night statewide. Looks like this one will bring 1 to 2 inches of rain, with the heaviest totals most likely south of Birmingham. No severe weather with this one, and we don’t believe the rain will be enough for major flooding issues. And, too warm for snow or ice.

The heaviest rain will move east of Alabama by Friday, but we will still deal with occasional light rain or drizzle during the day Friday with temperatures hovering in the 47 to 51 degree range much of the day.

OUR WEEKEND: Saturday looks pretty dreary; the latest global runs keep moisture over the state, meaning a day of low clouds, and a chance of some drizzle with temperatures only in the low to mid 40s. It might even be cold enough for a few snow flurries near the Tennessee border over extreme North Alabama. The sun should return in full force Sunday with a high in the upper 40s.

NEXT WEEK: An interesting system moves across the Deep South early in the week; looks warm enough for rain here in Alabama late Monday and Monday night, but there will be potential for snow over Arkansas and Tennessee, maybe some accumulating snow (an inch or two). We go dry Tuesday before another system blows in here toward the end of the week…

MID-MONTH MISCHIEF: You can just see it happening; a split flow; strongly negative Arctic Oscillation, and extremely active southern jet. We don’t know who gets what, but somebody over the southern half of the nation most likely will have to deal with more snow or ice.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. You can even listen here on the blog; look for the player on the top left. Scroll down for the notes on this week’s new show.
