Midnight Update

A little sleet starting to fall now in Marion County. Melissa Wilson in Hamilton reporting a rain/sleet mix and Alan in Bear creek reporting sleet falling.

Snow is starting to mix with the rain in Florence.

37F with light snow at Tupelo, but the rain has not changed over at Columbus.

Rain should transition to snow about 1 a.m. in the Northwest, around Marion County, around 3 a.m.in the I-59 corridor and 6 a.m. around Prattville.

The NWS has backed off a bit on their accumulation expectations…back to about where we were this morning…1-2 inches north of a line from Gordo to Alabaster to Talladega to Wedowee with higher amounts possible north of a line from Birmingham to Jacksonville. I think that is the right decision. The moisture has definitely increased with the system, as predicted by the models this afternoon, but the moisture is not lagging far enough behind the front to produce the more prolific snowfall amounts we were looking at earlier.

But having said that, this is a dynamic system that still could have a few tricks up its sleeve overnight and early Monday.

The NWS continues a Winter Storm Warning for points from Birmingham north and east. The rest of Central Alabama is under a Winter Weather Advisory.
