NOAA Hurricane Hunters Find Lower Pressure
A NOAA WP-3D Orion aircraft found 44 knot flight level winds between 5:11 and 5:12 p.m. CDT today with max gusts to 45 knots as it approached the center of Helene from the northwest.
They also found an extrapolated sea level pressure of a little over 990 mb.
Another NOAA plane is flying a high altitude pattern around the storm to gather symoptic data.
Still another plane, an Air Force C-130 is passing over the Yucatan Channel now and will be penetrating the storm center soon.
