I will be up and at ’em before the sun comes up tomorrow to prepare the regular Monday morning weather discussion and Weather Xtreme video, which will be posted by 6:15 a.m.

Just a few notes on the coming weather event…

*This remains a challenging event to forecast, as slight differences in thermal fields and pressure patterns can make or break a rain/snow line forecast.

*The RPM suggests mostly rain for Alabama, with a brief change to snow on the back side of the system Tuesday.

*The GFS/WRF are more bullish on the chance of some accumulating snow for North-Central Alabama. Seems like the higher accumulations will be over the eastern side of the state, especially across higher terrain.

*The new 00Z NAM running keeps the best moisture over the southern half of the state.

Here is a look at the snow potential from the FIM (Flow-following finite-volume Isosahedral Model… how’s that for a real weather geek term)…

And, from the 12Z run of the GFS:

Seems like we have a crack at 1/2 to 1 inch of snow here, with great potential for surprises. Stay tuned…
