Well, the sky may not be as clear as yesterday, but the high cirrus clouds have already produced a beautiful sunrise in many locations across Alabama – and I’ve got several of them captured from the Skycam network in the video. Temperatures still a little nippy with most of Central Alabama at or slightly below freezing this morning. This might be the last freezing morning for much of the upcoming week.
While Monday will be dry, clouds will increase and thicken during the latter part of the day opening up rain chances on Tuesday and Wednesday with the next system. This system comes out of Southern California and the Baja California area and sweeps up toward Chicago on Tuesday, but a slight complication will be another fast moving and vigorous shortwave that will come in right behind it. This will have two effects – it should retard the movement of the first short wave helping to establish a closed low over the central part of the country and bring us some potential for heavy rain mainly across southern Alabama on Wednesday. But temperatures will be mild so there are no winter threats or issues.
This complex pattern reduces my overall confidence beyond Wednesday, but it would seem likely that some rain may linger Thursday – nothing spectacular but perhaps some showers or patchy light rain and clouds. What concerns me is the GFS seems to be so warm in a pattern that seems likely to be a bit colder than the 06Z run indicates. Just have to wait and see on that one.
The big closed low over the eastern part of the country slowly moves to the coast and finally exits the area promising a fairly good weekend for us next weekend. And don’t forget that daylight savings time begins next Sunday at 2 am when we jump our clocks ahead one hour.
The pattern remains active looking well ahead with a continued series of weather systems.

Thanks for tuning in this morning. I hope you can enjoy the day with the filtered sun coming through those high clouds. Sun dogs may be a possibility for this afternoon toward sunset so keep an eye out for them. The cirrus might be too thick, but there is some chance. Have a great day and Godspeed.
