Winter Storm Warning Canceled For Most Areas, Continues For Far East And Northern AL; Black Ice a Concern Tonight

| January 10, 2025 @ 6:26 pm

The winter storm warning that was in effect for a large portion of the area has been canceled for many areas, with the exception of far northern as well as portions of eastern Alabama tonight (the area outlined in pink). The warning remains in effect for places such as Florence, Cullman, Huntsville, Gadsden, and Wedowee. The NWS is concerned that due to near freezing temperatures, some additional light accumulation of freezing rain may occur where light precipitation lingers.

Elsewhere, a special weather statement has been issued overnight for the possibility of black ice (the areas outlined in red). As temperatues fall tonight, any lingering moisture on the roads will have the potential to freeze into black ice, causing locally hazardous and slick traveling conditions. If you are out traveling tonight, please use extra caution. While the roads may look just wet, there could be a thin glaze of ice on them.
