Gulf Coast Snowstorm Update at 11:30 a.m.

A historic winter storm is in progress along the Gulf Coast this morning.

10.5″ of snow has been reported on a snowboard in Rovers Cove, 5 miles north of Rayne LA in Acadia Parish, LA. Rayne holds the Louisiana record for all time snowfall with 24 inches.

A blizzard warning was issued early this morning for extreme southeastern Texas and southwestern Louisiana. It goes until noon. It includes Beaumont, Port Arthur, Lake Charles, and Lafayette. 8″ of snow has fallen in Lafayette. No blizzard conditions have been observed, but the conditions are extreme for this region for sure. New Orleans Lakefront Airport did have conditions that reached blizzard threshold briefly around 7:30 a.m. with winds of 35 mph gusting to 40 mph with heavy snow.

There is 6 inches of snow in Hammond LA. 7″ fell in Cameron LA, more known for its hurricanes than its snowstorms.

In the Houston area, 3-4 inches of snow fell. 4″ was measured at Baytown. The NWS Houston/Galveston measured 2.4″.

6 inches was reported near Lake Charles.

Heavy snow is reported across southern Mississippi as well. Amazing to see photos of the ground whitened in Gulfport.

Snow is falling over the southern half of Alabama generally south of US-80 and I-85. A trace of snow now reported near Beauregard in Lee County Alabama where snow was reported to be sticking by the Emergency manager near Lee County Roads 11/14. Grass and rooftops starting to become white in Montgomery.

Escambia County Alabama officials report all roads impassable including the Brewton area. Snow is increasing across the southern half of Alabama.

Snow is falling in Gulf Shores, where the ground is whitened.

Snow will be increasing across the Florida Panhandle as well.
