Special Weather Statement Issued For Patchy Freezing Fog Tonight In NE Alabama
The National Weather Service in Huntsville has issued a special weather statement for portions of northern and northeastern Alabama tonight due to the potential of patchy areas of freezing fog. This SPS is in effect for Cullman, DeKalb, Jackson, Madison, Marshall, and Morgan counties in AL.
Per their statement, visibility has fallen to 1-3 miles in some spots in ongoing fog, and temperatues continue to fall. As they fall to near or below freezing tonight, this may result in some areas of freezing fog. In turn, this could lead to a thin layer of ice on elevated surfaces, including some isolated bridges and overpasses.
While significant travel disruptions are not expected, we do recommend you use caution if traveling tonight. Note that any wet roads within the SPS area could actually be icy. Be especially cautious if traveling through valleys, as freezing fog may be more common in those areas due to locally enhanced moisture pooling and lower temperatures.
