Thursday Drought Update: Slightly Worsened Conditions This Week

| January 30, 2025 @ 1:30 pm

The latest drought monitor is in, and unfortunately the drought has actually worsened in some areas. Last week, the total area under a level 2 (moderate) drought was 35.79%. This week, it has risen to just over 40%. The area in a level 3 (Severe) drought has also increased although not as much as the moderate drought. It has increased from 6.19% to 6.42%.

The latest forecast from WPC does show some precipitation over the next 7 days, but not nearly enough to make a dent in the drought. For the NW portion of the state, 1/2-1″ of rain is expected with most of this falling tonight into tomorrow. For the remainder of the state, less than a half inch of rain is expected over the next 7 days.
