OK… I know… I said no more cheesy song lyrics. But, maybe just one more… any John Denver fans out there?

“Sunshine on my shoulders makes me happy
Sunshine in my eyes can make me cry
Sunshine on the water looks so lovely
Sunshine almost always makes me high

If I had a day that I could give you
I’d give to you a day just like today
If I had a song that I could sing for you
I’d sing a song to make you feel this way”

I was a senior in high school when that song was first released, playing it on the BIG 1230, WTBC in Tuscaloosa.

ONE MORE: We will be able to squeeze out one more nice, dry, mild day. Tomorrow will be a mild and breezy day with a mix of sun and clouds and high in the mid 70s. But, to the west, a big winter storm will unfold over Oklahoma, and parts of Kansas, Southwest Missouri, and Northwest Arkansas. That system will impact Alabama in a big way Sunday.

SUNDAY: Rain and storms are likely Sunday morning, with the main 12 hour window from 1:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Not much change in our thinking; no surface based instability means no significant chance of severe weather here. SPC maintains a slight severe weather risk tomorrow and tomorrow night for Southeast Louisiana and the Gulf Coast of Mississippi, but even there parameters are marginal. Rain amounts of around 1/2 inch seem likely for most of Alabama; the NAM is printing 0.46″ for Birmingham, with the GFS drier at 0.36″.

And, once the rain tapers off during the midday hours, much colder air invades the state. Still looks like a day with 50s during the morning, followed by temperatures falling into the 40s by afternoon.

SUNDAY NIGHT AND MONDAY: The weather looks raw and cold with clouds hanging tough, and some light drizzle at times. I would not be shocked if we heard reports of a few snow flakes up on Lookout Mountain in DeKalb County Monday morning with very low thickness values thanks to a cold core upper low that will be near Chattanooga. Temperatures will hold in the 40s most of the day Monday, almost 20 degrees below average for mid to late March in Alabama.

REST OF THE WEEK: Tuesday and Wednesday look nice with ample sunshine and a warming trend. We expect mid 60s Tuesday, followed by low 70s Wednesday. Rain will return at the end of the week Thursday night and Friday.

AT THE BEACH: Tomorrow will feature a partly sunny sky along the Gulf Coast from Panama City west to Gulf Shores, with a high in the low 60s on the immediate coast. Just inland, temperatures will reach the upper 60s. Rain and storms are likely Sunday, but the weather down there will be dry with sunny days for the first half of next week.
