Significant Weather Advisories for Colbert, Franklin, Lauderdale and Limestone Counties
The NWS in Huntsville has issued a significant weather advisory instead of a severe thunderstorm warning for parts of Colbert and Franklin counties in Northwest Alabama and a separate one for eastern Lauderdale and Limestone counties.
The earlier warning for Lauderdale and Colbert counties was allowed to expire.
Strong storms over Prentiss and Tishomino counties in Northeast Mississippi are producing large hail to the size of quarters, which is the threshold for severe, but they are weakening.
1″ hail was reported in the Booneville and Blackland areas in Prentiss County MS. Ping pong ball sized hall was reported in Alcorn County along US-45.
The public reported 1″ hail nears Burnsville along US-72 in Tishomingo Counties.
The storms are not producing reports of wind damage, which is great news. Rain cooled air is helping to keep the strong winds from reaching the surface.
A tornado watch is in effect until 5 a.m. CDT for the northwestern quarter of Alabama.
Now that warnings are no longer in effect, we will go to hourly updates. Next update at 330 a.m.
