A Severe Thunderstorm Watch continues until 7:00 this evening for about the west third of Tennessee, extreme North and NE Mississippi and NW Alabama. This Watch does not include the immediate Birmingham area, but it does include counties as nearby as Walker, Fayette and Cullman.

So far, the closest actual warnings to Alabama have been over NW Mississippi, extreme Eastern Arkansas and SW Tennessee, including the Memphis area.

Very little lightning so far in Alabama.

However, thunderstorms are still under development. They were growing stronger over NE Mississippi and scattered ones, not real strong yet, extending from Winston County through NW Walker County to west of Tuscaloosa. A stronger single storm was over the NW cornr of Marion County. All of these storms were moving generally toward the northeast.

Even after the Watch expiration time at 7:00 p.m., we may still get some thunderstorms until later in the evening.

Looking down the road for some better news, Friday will be cooler wiith stubborn morning clouds and possibly clearing at some point during the afternoon. Saturday should be mostly sunshine with a pleasant 70-degree high, but showers and thunderstorms back in our picture after midnight Saturday night and mainly on Sunday.

We will have frequent updates all evening on the BLOG. Also, scroll down for a complete text of the Severe Thunderstorm Watch and all of the Alabama counties that are included.
