An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player below. You can subscribe to the Weather Xtreme video on iTunes by clicking here.

BRING ON THE WEEKEND: The sky did clear this afternoon across most of Alabama, and we will promise a nice day tomorrow to kick off the weekend with a sunny sky and a high around 70 degrees.

STORMY SUNDAY? Sunday’s system looks pretty similar to the one we dealt with yesterday and last night. Clouds will increase tomorrow night, and we will forecast a chance of showers and thunderstorms Sunday. Watch the Weather Xtreme video and you will see that there is a little surface based instability, and some degree of low level helicity. Certainly not screaming severe weather parameters you expect to see in late March, but it could be enough to produce a few strong, possibly severe storms. For now SPC has their lowest (5 percent) severe weather probabilities across Alabama Sunday, not even at the “slight risk” level. But, we will keep an eye on parameters as we get closer to the event.

The latest model data suggests it won’t be a really heavy rain event; the NAM is printing only 0.21″ for Birmingham Sunday, while the GFS is even drier at 0.14″.

The showers and storms should end by Sunday evening.

NEXT WEEK: Still looks like 5, count em, 5 dry days in a row. The sky will clear Monday with a high in the upper 50s, then look for sunny days and clear nights through Friday, with good potential for the warmest weather so far this year by Thursday and Friday; projected thickness values suggest we might reach the low 80s both days under a 5820 meter 500 mb ridge across the Deep South. Then, a band of showers and strong storms seems poised to enter Alabama on Saturday April 3.

VOODOO LAND: No real need in getting into details since every GFS run looks different, but I still say we will have to deal with one more cold snap, possibly with freezing temperatures.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes.
