Extra Alabama Notes (Mostly)

* As that line of showers and thunderstorms moved east across (mainly north and central) Alabama today, there was no formal Severe Thunderstorm Watch. That fit the situation. The Storm Prediction Center had a “slight risk” mainly east of Alabama..

* Only one Severe Thunderstorm Warning during the day today. That was one for West Cullman County issued by NWS/Huntsville at 8:27 this morning.

* In case you have not noticed, you almost needed some Velcro to keep your hat on this afternoon. Dry west winds were gusting 30 or better in many areas. (Very typical in March) Some examples based only on 3 pm reports:

…25 mph Huntsville
…28 mph Greenville, Auburn
…43 mph Downtown Birmingham Skycam
…42 mph atop Mt. Cheaha Skycam
…38 mph Cullman Skycam

* During the overnight and early today, the NWS in Little Rock issued 25 Severe Thunderstorm Warnings!

* This afternoon, NWS, Knoxville issued a Tornado Warning for Cherokee County in SW North Carolina, Monroe County, in East Tennessee and Polk County County, also in East Tennessee.
