An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player below. You can subscribe to the Weather Xtreme video on iTunes by clicking here.

COOL MONDAY: We begin this day with cloudy and cool conditions across Alabama; temperatures are mostly in the upper 40s around here with a low overcast. We will be optimistic and forecast some clearing this afternoon, but don’t be shocked if those clouds hang tough much of the day, especially over East Alabama. If the sun can break out, we will reach the low 60s, but where the clouds stick around all day, those communities won’t make it out of the 50s.

WARMEST WEATHER SO FAR THIS YEAR: In the days ahead, a strong upper ridge will build across the Deep South, making for a bit time warm-up later this week, and keeping us dry. For now, we are projecting no rain through Friday, with highs in the upper 60s tomorrow, upper 70s Wednesday, followed by low 80s on Thursday and Friday. This week will give all of us a great chance to dry out and warm up after a long, cold winter.

THE WEEKEND: While our weather stays dry during the day Saturday, we will bring in a good chance of rain and possible strong thunderstorms Saturday night into Sunday morning with the next short wave. A little early to be specific about severe weather possibilities, but we will have to keep an eye on that as we get closer to the weekend. At this point it looks like the main window for showers and storms will be from about 10:00 p.m. Saturday until 10:00 a.m. Sunday. The sun might poke out at times Sunday afternoon, but the day looks generally cloudy.

NEXT WEEK AND BEYOND: The operational GFS is not showing any serious intrusion of cold air, or any late season freeze threat for Alabama for the next 15 days. Maybe we have seen the last of freezing temperatures, but I would not take that to the bank. It is very early to make that claim, and I would still hold off planting anything that could be harmed by freezing temperatures. We all know how cold it can be at Easter time in Alabama.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. You can even listen here on the blog; look for the player on the top left. This week, our very own Ashley Brand will be the Guest Panelist. She will help interview author Eric Pinder, who wrote Life at the Top, a book about his seven years working at the Mount Washington Observatory in New Hampshire. This week’s show will be recorded tomorrow night.
