80s HERE WE COME: Our warm-up is progressing nicely. Temperatures this afternoon are generally between 68 and 71 degrees, and we are still on target to reach the upper 70s tomorrow, and low 80s on Thursday and Friday. Dry air stays in place, and with a strong ridge aloft building, it will be hard to find a decent cloud in the sky through the end of the week. If we do reach the low 80s, it will be the first time we have been at or over 80 degrees since October 29 of last year when the high was 81. What a great way to begin the month of April.

EASTER WEEKEND: Still some model madness, but the GFS continues to be faster, stronger, and farther south with the next short wave due in here over the weekend. It now looks like the main window for showers and storms will come from about 2:00 p.m. until 11:00 p.m. Saturday. If the storms arrive during the peak of the daytime heating process, with dewpoints expected to be in the low 60s, there could very well be a few strong storms around Saturday afternoon; we will watch for trends in coming days as the event gets closer. We will go ahead and remove the chance of significant rain Easter Sunday; that could very well work out to be a nice day with the sky becoming partly sunny and a high in the mid to upper 70s.

NEXT WEEK: The 12Z operational GFS is now showing a strong cold front coming through Alabama around Wednesday of next week with a healthy round of showers and storms, followed by sharply cooler weather on Thursday and Friday. In fact, it now looks like parts of North Alabama could have a late season frost/freeze threat by Thursday or Friday morning of next week; this is the late season cold snap we have been expecting. See the Weather Xtreme video for more info.
