DRY THROUGH FRIDAY: March will indeed go out like a lamb today. Pretty much a case of severe clear today, with the warming trend continuing. Most places will see a high in the upper 70s today, with low 80s possible for the western counties. Everybody should rise into the low 80s tomorrow and Friday. If we hit our projected high of 83 on Friday, that will be our warmest day since October 9, 2009 when the high was 89. The last day with a high in the 80s here was October 29 of last year when the high was 81. The bottom line is the we have a nice little preview of summer in the days ahead.

EASTER WEEKEND: The big upper trough out west will impact Alabama over the weekend, but it remains a mystery to some degree. Watch the Weather Xtreme video, and you will see the GFS continues to speed the system up, and now suggests showers could move into Alabama as early as Saturday morning. The ECMWF, however, holds the showers off until Saturday night, and it really hints that rain amounts here will be light and spotty as the main dynamics pass well to the north. Both models suggest the severe weather threat will be marginal, but we all know we have to watch any system in early April.

The bottom line for now is that we will mention a chance of showers and storms on Saturday, but I don’t think it rains all day, and the rain totals should be fairly light. Easter Sunday looks dry and mild with a high in the 70s.

NEXT WEEK: The weather stays dry and warm Monday and Tuesday… then a cold front moves through on Wednesday with a chance of showers, and possibly a thunderstorm, although the 00Z GFS doesn’t look especially wet. Sharply colder air will follow Thursday and Friday, and it is possible we could make a run at a freeze or frost situation by Friday morning (April 9). Growers will need to monitor that situation as we get closer.
