Summer In The City

An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player below, and on iTunes…

How about this one from the Lovin’ Spoonful?

“Hot town, summer in the city
Back of my neck getting dirty and gritty
Been down, isn’t it a pity
Doesn’t seem to be a shadow in the city

All around, people looking half dead
Walking on the sidewalk, hotter than a match head

But at night it’s a different world
Go out and find a girl
Come-on come-on and dance all night
Despite the heat it’ll be alright

And babe, don’t you know it’s a pity
That the days can’t be like the nights
In the summer, in the city
In the summer, in the city”

I am afraid I will run out of summer songs long before the weather really cools down around here. No real change today; hazy sunshine, a high between 96 and 100, and just a handful of isolated afternoon storms.

REST OF THE WEEK: The GFS continues to trend of strengthening the upper high overhead, which means we might be a few degrees hotter tomorrow, Thursday, and Friday. And, the warm air aloft associated with the ridge will keep most of the state high and dry. The afternoon high temperature range will jump a bit, to the 98 to 102 degree range. Nasty heat.

THE WEEKEND: Unfortunately, the 00Z GFS is coming in with a stronger ridge for the weekend, meaning more sizzling heat with very few afternoon showers. Looks like we need to hang on to the upper 90s for Saturday and Sunday.

LONG RANGE: The core of the heat slowly moves off to the west next week, so hopefully the heat will slowly back off. But, no sign of any really serious cooling, or widespread rain, for the next 15 days. We do note the 00Z GFS develops some type of tropical storm/hurricane feature in the Atlantic, east of Miami, around August 22. It is dangerous to write off this hurricane season… we still have a very long way to go.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather hosted by David Black and featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. The show notes for the new show we recorded last night should be posted here shortly.

WEATHER PARTY: Get all the latest weather news over on our sister site, WeatherParty.com. Be sure and register while you are there; you can submit stories and vote on them to determine what is published on the front page.

SKYCAMS: Our SKYCAM sites remain down in Inverness and Jasper due to Internet issues… we hope to have them back online later in the week, as soon as those problems are cleared up.

RADAR: And, our Pinpoint Doppler Radar atop Double Oak Mountain remains down (we had a major component fail at the site last week). We hope to have it back in service within the next seven days.

Be sure and scroll down and read Tim Coleman’s blog post concerning his Washington trip. Sure is good to have Tim with us here on the blog, he brings some real brainpower.

Do your best to stay cool today… the next Weather Xtreme video will be posted here by 3:30 this afternoon!
