A Little Rain Later Today
An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player below. You can subscribe to the Weather Xtreme video on iTunes by clicking here.
TODAY AND TOMORROW: A short wave will bring the chance of a little light rain to Alabama this afternoon, tonight, and tomorrow morning. Moisture and dynamics are very limited, and this certainly won’t be a big rain event. The NAM is printing 0.16″ for Birmingham, while the GFS is even drier with only 0.06″. The main window for showers will be from about 4:00 p.m. today through 9:00 a.m. tomorrow.
REST OF THE WEEK: Our weather looks dry Wednesday through Friday with a nice day to day warming trend. Each day should feature a good supply of sunshine… the high Wednesday will be in the mid to upper 70s, followed by low 80s Thursday and Friday.
WET WEEKEND: A major storm will impact Alabama this weekend, and provide a good soaking. Rain will fall much of the day Saturday with potential for a few thunderstorms as well; that rain should continue Saturday night before tapering off during the day Sunday. Rain amounts of 1 to 2 inches look likely statewide, which will help to flush away the pollen we have been dealing with in recent weeks. At first glance the severe weather parameters are not overly impressive with limited instability values; but we will need to keep a close eye on this as dynamics will be fairly impressive. Watch the Weather Xtreme video for more details.
LONG RANGE: Seems like we will be getting into a more active weather pattern through the end of April and the first part of May, although we still really don’t see any serious severe weather setups in recent global model runs.
WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. You can even listen here on the blog; look for the player on the top left. We will record this week’s new episode tomorrow night; this week, the legendary Bob Baron will be along to talk about his career, the 1989 Huntsville Tornado, weather systems, radar and the future of weather forecasting.
