A SHORTER VERSION THAN USUAL

* 9 is how many feet below normal the water level was on Lake Catoma in Cullman County today. That is the water source for the City of Cullman and Cullman County. Jason Simpson talked with the Cullman Water Board this morning and he furnishes this information.

* 30 is how many days it was above 90 in Birmingham in August, 1980. 89 was the “lowest high” on August 23.

* 95 was the average daily high in August 1980.

* 96 was the average daily high one month earlier in July, 1980. That was a very mean summer and July presented us with a severe heat wave. That same heat wave affected many states.

* 8 days in a row had over over 100 in Birmingham during that July, 1980 heat. 4 days were 104 or hotter.

* 106 was the hottest day on July 13. That was one degree short of the all time high which is 107 in July, 1930.

* 58 of the 62 days in July/August, 1980 had 90 or above. That is most unusual.

* 5 feet is how much Lewis Smith Lake is below the 45-year average.

* 26.05 inches in the Cullman rain deficit in just the last 18 months.

* 103 was the hottest temperature in Alabama at mid-afternoon, based only on the regular hourly reporting stations.

* 52 is how many days it is until October gets here.

* 138 days till Christmas.
