WARMER DAYS AHEAD: After another cool night, temperatures begin to warm tomorrow, with a high around 80 degrees in most spots with a good supply of sunshine. We rise into the mid 80s Friday as a warm southerly breeze kicks in.

FRIDAY AND THE WEEKEND: Looks like most of Alabama will stay dry Friday, but showers and locally severe storms will break across a wide area from Louisiana and Mississippi north to the Great Lakes. This zone of unsettled weather won’t move much over the weekend, setting the stage for potentially serious flooding issues over Mississippi and West Tennessee where over 5 inches of rain could fall easily through Monday.

For Alabama, it continues to look like the most active weather will stay just to the west over the weekend. Still, there will be enough moisture for scattered showers and storms, but there could be some decent intervals of sunshine and no organized severe weather problems are expected. The exception could be the northwest corner of the state, around Muscle Shoals, where heavy rain could become a problem. Highs over the weekend will be up in the mid 80s with a strong southerly breeze continuing.

NEXT WEEK: The band of showers and storms will slowly move south and east, and the coverage of showers and storms will begin to increase on Monday and Tuesday. We do note the 12Z GFS really makes this a slow process, hinting it might even be Wednesday before the main band of rain and storms arrives. See the Weather Xtreme video for details… Thursday and Friday at this point look rain-free.
