Not much change in our overall thinking this afternoon…

TOMORROW: Partly sunny, warm, and breezy weather is likely tomorrow, with most of Alabama staying dry during the day. A few showers could slip in here from the south tomorrow night, but nothing especially heavy or widespread. The high will be in the low to mid 80s. Strong to severe storms will break out tomorrow afternoon in a broad area from Louisiana and Mississippi north to the western Great Lakes region.

SATURDAY/SUNDAY: The 12Z GFS confirms the idea the worst weather over the weekend will stay just a little west of us. Periods of rain, heavy at times, and the greatest potential for severe storms will be over Louisiana, Mississippi, West Tennessee, Arkansas, and northward into parts of Missouri and Kentucky. These folks could see over 5 inches of rain, and occasional rounds of severe thunderstorms.

Here in Alabama, we still believe the most widespread rain will be over the northwest corner of the state. Specifically Lauderdale, Colbert, Franklin, and Lawrence counties. Rain amounts over three inches are likely here, but amounts will be much lighter as you go south and east. Most of the weekend will be dry down in Southeast Alabama under a warm ridge.

Elsewhere, the weekend will be warm and humid with scattered showers and thunderstorms. No wash-out, and the sun will be out at times. Afternoon highs will stay up in the mid 80s. And, we don’t expect any organized severe weather in Alabama… SPC has the extreme northwest corner of the state in a slight risk Saturday.

NEXT WEEK: Rain and storms will become more widespread Monday as the upper trough moves to the east. The 12Z run brings in dry air Tuesday, with pleasant weather on Wednesday and Thursday, and we will go ahead and buy into that solution since we are getting some consistency now. No cold air next week; afternoons will stay warm with highs in the 80s.

I enjoyed speaking to the kids at Oak Mountain Intermediate School this morning (at a First Priority meeting), and seeing the kindergarten students at Chalkville Elementary later in the morning. Be looking for those kids from Chalkville on the Pepsi KIDCAM on ABC 33/40 News this afternoon at 5:00. The next Weather Xtreme video will be posted by 7:00 a.m. tomorrow… enjoy the day!
