Strong Storms Sliding South

| August 17, 2007 @ 3:27 pm | 1 Reply

Strong thunderstorms are sliding southward over North Alabama this afternoon.

At 3:40 p.m., storms were in progress or developing across North Alabama in about a 60 mile wide band oriented from northwest to southeast bounded generally by Lauderdale and Marion Counties on the west and Cleburne to Jackson Counties on the east.

The strongest storms were over SE Jackson County moving into DeKalb County and over Lauderdale County in Northwest Alabama. Another strong storm was over Marshall County.

Severe thunderstorms have been issued for these three strongest storms.

Now add Etowah County to that list…for a strong storm about 8 miles north of Gadsden.

Unstable air ahead of a weak frontal boundary or trough to our north has resulted in the storms today. They will continue strong through the afternoon hours as they move south.
