It appears possible to just repeat the discussion from yesterday morning since very little in our weather pattern has changed. The upper low in Central Mississippi has drifted just a bit to the north and was located between Jackson, MS, and Memphis, TN, this morning. The upper low will continue to promote shower and thunderstorm development this afternoon with the heat of the day. Storms should continue into the evening hours.

This morning, the weather is not quite as active as it was yesterday. Radar showed a few showers extending from just south of Vance across the Tuscaloosa area to Carrollton and Aliceville. But showers were definitely not as numerous this morning. But with the heat of the afternoon I do expect to see showers develop again.

There is a slight decrease Monday in the strength of the weak upper low, so perhaps shower coverage will not be quite as large on Memorial Day. But a weakness in the upper air pattern does remain with us. A short wave trough moves across to the Great Lakes Thursday once again enhancing shower chances. But by Saturday we see a strong trough coming into the Great Lakes region which is expected to turn the upper flow more northwesterly for us. This could bring slightly drier and cooler air to us for Saturday. However, it looks like the possibility of scattered showers will pretty much be with us for most days.

QPF forecasts show on the order of 1 to 2 inches of rain across much of the Southeast over the next five days. This does not mean that everyone will see rain just because of the nature of the storms. There is no specific risk area for severe weather, however, the pattern for today and Monday makes isolated severe storms possible with the greatest threat being damaging wind.

Further into the future, there is not a great deal of change to the overall pattern with much of the voodoo period showing a ridge over the Southeast. This should mean a daily pattern of afternoon showers.
