Showers were widespread from just north of Tuscaloosa NW into Fayette and Lamar County. There is considerable lightning over North Tuscaloosa County into Fayette County.

Movement is toward the north and northwest.

Some of the showers have developed eastward into the west edge of Jefferson County near Oak Grove.

A few showers were located south of the Birmingham area along Interstate 65 over Extreme South Shelby County and North Chilton County.

The SPC does not have a slight risk posted for our area today but that certainly does not mean that we will not have some strong storms later today and this evening and even a few isolated severe storms.

We still have that pesky low pressure area aloft centered mainly over Mississippi. It features colder air aloft which makes the overall atmosphere more unstable. (Scroll down to see Brian’s early morning discussion)

Thunderstorms were also increasing in number offshore off the Alabama-NW Florida Coast.
