I am sure looking forward to the day when we can headline the Blog video post with something besides heat. But for the foreseeable future, it appears that the heat will continue even if we don’t see uniform 100-degree readings every day. And speaking of 100-degree heat, the string of 100-degree highs for Tuscaloosa ended yesterday with a high there of only 98. But Birmingham started a new streak with 101. And Pinson continued the streak with a high of 95.

Showers erupted along and generally just south of Interstate 20 during the afternoon and continued into the early evening. Some spots got a nice soaking according to radar estimates, but most reporting locations didn’t see much. Lots of lightning with the storms as well as several severe thunderstorm warnings. But it looks like the sky will not be quite as active today.

In the upper atmosphere, the large high builds back into the area strongly through the middle of the week. This means that afternoon high temperatures will continue to be hot even if they don’t get into triple digits. Funny how 98 almost seems cool compared to 101!

The GFS continues to advertise a change next weekend which should result in a weakening of the upper ridge and a drop in temperatures back into the middle 90s.

Looking into the voodoo world crystal ball, the tropical system the GFS was so bullish on way out there is completely gone. But now the GFS is suggesting a deepening East Coast trough around the end of August. I sure hope that is right so we can get back to cooler temperatures. And there might even be the possibility of a late August cold front to bring some decent rain chances. And by the end of the cycle, there’s even a fairly strong short wave moving through the Central US that could bring some wet weather our way. But remember, we’re still dealing with voodoo!!

I had a great time visiting with folks in Adamsville yesterday afternoon at Spring Street Park for the Adamsville Partnership for Public Safety. Lots of great activities and good food. I hope that you have a great weekend. James should be back with another Weather Xtreme Video tomorrow morning around 7 am. Stay cool and God bless.
