Hot, And Mostly Dry
I am on the road this morning; I will be in Gulf Shores “on assignment” today, so I am not able to produce a Weather Xtreme video this morning. Hopefully Brian Peters will be able to put one together a little later. The weather in the short term is pretty well defined, however.
HEATING UP: Afternoon temperatures will trend upward during the mid-week period, with low 90s today, and mid 90s tomorrow and Thursday. The NAM is printing 98 degrees for Birmingham on Thursday, which seems too hot considering the adequate soil moisture and thickness values. We can’t rule out the chance of a rogue shower somewhere during the peak of the daytime heating process, but most communities will be dry.
FRIDAY AND THE WEEKEND: A few isolated showers could show up Friday, but the next decent chance of showers and storms will come on Saturday as the weekend arrives. The day won’t be a wash-out, but one or two passing showers and storms are a decent possibility with the approach of a surface front. The 00Z GFS hangs the front up around I-20, which would mean a continued risk of scattered showers and storms Sunday and Monday. The heat will back off, with highs in the upper 80s.
TROPICS: The tropical low that was producing tropical storm force wind gusts on the Louisiana coast yesterday has moved inland, so it won’t be getting a name or an upgrade. A tropical wave continues over the Northwest Caribbean; this will move across the northern tip of the Yucatan peninsula, then moving into the Southwest Gulf. Most dynamic models bring this into the lower Texas coast in 72 hours; all of the models keep the system as a tropical storm.
WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. You can even listen here on the blog; look for the player on the top left. Scroll down for the show notes on this week’s new episode that was recorded last night.
