Racing to get everything done this morning before heading to the polls for the runoff election. I’m a poll worker so will be spending the day at the Helena Civic Center working the runoff election today.

A relatively strong trough for this time of year is moving across the eastern half of the country this morning. It is helping to generate another series of MCSs across Arkansas and Tennessee where many flash flood warnings were issued overnight. The SPC has outlooked an area for slight risk of severe storms today just ahead of this trough including a large portion of the northern half of Alabama and Georgia, much of Tennessee, along with parts of the Carolinas and Virginia. As I noted yesterday but it did not come true, those MCSs should lay down some boundaries that will help to focus thunderstorm development later today.

The ridge builds back in beginning tomorrow, so we drop back to daily isolated showers along with heat and humidity. Temperatures should continue in the lower and mid 90s with some spots pushing toward the upper 90s. Dew points remain in the lower 70s.

The ridge stays in place through the weekend. A trough moving through the westerlies on Saturday could bring slightly better chances for rain to the Southeast but it will be temporary with the ridge building back on Sunday.

Tropics remain quiet for now.
